What Is Polyurea?
Polyurea is the latest advancement in coating technology
providing the best of all worlds. Its extreme durability makes it 4x
stronger than epoxy. It’s chemically resistant to salt, oil,
gas and other harsh chemicals. It’s even 98% more flexible
than epoxy, allowing for natural concrete movement – Polyurea
will not crack or peel.
Polyurea has been utilized for over 25 years in
industrial applications such as pipe / pipeline coatings and linings,
water treatment plants, manhole & sewer linings, and automotive
fascia OEM molded parts. In fact, if you are familiar with spray-on
pickup truck bed liners, you are familiar with Polyurea. Fast cure
times, flexibility, and abrasion-resistance are all inherent properties
of Polyurea, making it a natural choice for the high demands on an
average garage floor.

Q&A
Why do I need a
protective coating on my garage floor?
Unprotected concrete floors will
wear, be stained by oils and fluids, and be damaged by the corrosive
effects of snow and ice-melting chemicals such as rock salt. ROCKSOLID
FLOORS® coating system protects concrete from wear because it
is actually harder and more durable than the concrete itself. ROCKSOLID
FLOORS® POLYUREA is so dense that oils and fluids cannot
penetrate its surface to soak in and cause staining. ROCKSOLID
FLOORS® is impervious to the corrosive effects of rock salt.
ROCKSOLID FLOORS® beautifies your floor while prolonging the
life of the concrete itself.
What is ROCKSOLID
FLOORS® and why is it better than other floor sealing products?
ROCKSOLID FLOORS® is a
two-component product that when mixed together forms a 100% solids
POLYUREA floor sealer. ROCKSOLID FLOORS® is superior to
epoxies, urethanes, paints, and other coatings because POLYUREAS form a
harder, denser, more abrasion resistant film than any of them.
ROCKSOLID FLOORS® is superior to any other coatings because it
is made from the most durable coating available – POLYUREA.
Why
does the floor have to be prepared for the ROCKSOLID FLOORS®
kit?
Floor preparation is crucial to the
proper installation of ROCKSOLID FLOORS® . The ROCKSOLID FLOORS®
coating system will not be able to penetrate and bond to concrete in
areas where heavy oil or fluid contamination has occurred. To remedy
these areas, use a full concentration of ROCK SOLID CPC DEGREASER prior
to etching the floor. The use of ROCKSOLID FLOORS® SAFE ETCH SOLUTION will help to
remove some minor contaminants but it’s main purpose is to
profile the concrete to provide an anchor for adhesion.
Can I put
ROCKSOLID FLOORS® over pre-existing paints or other coatings?
While it is always best to apply
ROCKSOLID FLOORS® to freshly cleaned and etched concrete, the
revolutionary Micro-Bond technology allows for ROCKSOLID
FLOORS® POLYUREA to bond to previously coated floors. To do so,
first check to guarantee that the existing coating is adhered to the
floor. If so you can simply sand the floor to etch the surface, clean
it with a solvent, and apply ROCKSOLID FLOORS® over the top. If
the existing coating seems to be delaminating from the surface or
failing in any way, then it is recommended to remove it using
mechanical means such as shot-blasting or diamond grinding prior to
applying ROCKSOLID FLOORS® .
What
is the purpose of the ROCKSOLID FLOORS® decorative chip?
The decorative chip serves to
enhance the appearance of the surface. Two different chip blends are
included in each kit, allowing the customer to choose their decorative
look. The two chip blends can also be combined for a truly original
finish. The chip blends were chosen to accentuate the color of the
floor and also provide a distraction to the naked eye – dirt
and debris will be less visible.
What will hot tires
do to ROCKSOLID
FLOORS® ?
Nothing. Tires heated from normal
driving will not cause delamination the ROCKSOLID FLOORS®
finish.
Do I have to
recoat with ROCKSOLID FLOORS® every year?
No, ROCKSOLID FLOORS®
’ hard, durable surface will last for many years under normal
circumstances.
Do I need to apply a
clear coat over the ROCKSOLID FLOORS® Coating?
While it is not necessary to apply a
clear topcoat to ROCKSOLID FLOORS® , we do offer a high gloss
POLYUREA topcoat that can enhance the overall look of the floor
coating. Sold separately, this topcoat will help to lock in the
decorative chip, provide even more abrasion resistance, and increase
the warranty from 3 to 5 years for the total installed system.
Is the ROCKSOLID
FLOORS® coating slippery when wet?
No, the coating will not be slippery
when wet. However if you wish to add an additional level of protection
against slipping, you may add additional anti-slip aggregate.
Can I get additional
decorative chips for my ROCKSOLID FLOORS® coating?
Yes, the ROCKSOLID FLOORS®
kit comes with a sufficient amount of decorative chip to complete a
partial broadcast floor. Additional decorative chips are available for
purchase on our website along with many other helpful items.
Will I be able
to coat and/or apply the decorative chips to the vertical surfaces in
my garage (stemwalls, curb, stairs)?
Yes, this is one of the many
benefits of the ROCKSOLID FLOORS® coating systems. Because our
POLYUREA primer / basecoat material is thicker and dries faster than
any epoxy product available, coating of vertical surfaces, stairs, curb
block, and sheetrock is a breeze. The coating will hold strong and not
run down the vertical surface during curing. You will be able to
broadcast chip onto to these surfaces to seamlessly match the floor!!
What are the
decorative chips made of?
Our decorative chips are made of
vinyl. Unlike other coating systems available who use acrylic chips,
our vinyl chips are designed to lay down flatter, soak in better, and
adhere better to the coating system. This leaves you with a flatter
floor that the chips are embedded in, thus eliminating peeling or
flaking over time.
If my garage has windows, will
the ROCKSOLID FLOORS® coating fade or change colors?
No, only long-term, direct UV
exposure will affect the coating.
Do I have to repair the cracks
in my floor prior to installing ROCKSOLID FLOORS® ?
Yes, repairing the cracks will not
only improve the overall look of the floor but will help to keep
contaminants, oil, grease, etc. from becoming trapped in the floor.
Cracks need to be cleaned out and filled using ROCKSOLID
FLOORS® FAST PATCH prior to coating.
